The ADVANCE Transcarpathian Advocacy and Development Centre in partnership with US Peace Corps volunteers organized the first half marathon in 2009. Originally this marathon was called Beregszászi Wine Half Marathon and its aim is to present the Bereg beauty of wine country and culture in addition to promoting sports.
During the first year of this Marathon only 10 participants were involved, however every year since this marathon has been held and therefore has grown and increased in popularity among athletes. The town and surrounding village’s community members regularly attend the event. In addition to the surrounding towns, many counties in Ukraine, Hungary and beyond are able to participant as runners. Thus, in October 2015, more than 350 people stood on the starting line.
2016 runners of the race will bear the name Beregszászi Charity Half Marathon, which is organized jointly by ADVANCE and HIA. The name change is intended: to draw attention to the HIA-aid program for Ukraine.
The running race for children is expected to be (800 m and 3 km) and for adults (5 km, 10 km and 21.095 km)……we expect both!
We are very excited about being able to hold such a fun, culturally relevant, and important event yet again and look forward to seeing all of your enth
usiastic faces at the starting line! Hurry and start training now!
